Girraween National Park: A Nature Lover's Paradise

If you're looking for an adventure that combines breathtaking views, challenging hikes, and unique wildlife encounters as well as the best star gazing, ever, then Girraween National Park in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia, is the perfect destination for you!

Castle Rock Camp Ground - It’s a bit of a ‘are you kidding me’ kind of camp ground. Absolutely gorgeous!

Josh and I ventured there for the weekend, staying at Castle Rock Camp Ground, and absolutely loved it. The park's rugged landscape and diverse flora and fauna make it an ideal location for photographers (like me) and nature enthusiasts (like us). We spent hours exploring the park's nooks and crannies, discovering hidden waterfalls and secret caves.

Back to one of my favourite features - the park is also an excellent location for stargazing which made the Yotchi Sky Bed the ideal bed. The park's remote location means that the night sky is free from light pollution, allowing visitors to enjoy a clear view of the stars!!! Josh and I drifted in and out of micro sleeps in between a shooting star counting competition!!

We could have literally stayed at Castle Rock Camp Ground and been completely satisfied amongst a full natural wonderland. Of course - we didn’t do that! With the 115L chest fridge in The Adriatic, we stocked up and turned off, strargazing so hard - it was like we were one of the planets.

Josh loves a climb.

Huge fire pits and tables.

The facility was so clean, peaceful and full of Kangaroos.

Home to a vast array of flora and fauna, the park's unique location provides a habitat for species that are not found anywhere else in the world!

The park's most famous feature is its granite rock formations that create a dramatic landscape of balancing boulders, towering cliffs, and deep crevices. The park is also home to a variety of eucalyptus trees, wildflowers, and shrubs. In the spring, the park bursts into a riot of color as the wildflowers bloom, creating a stunning contrast against the granite backdrop.

Josh and I stole away for the weekend in the Adriatic. Our Long Wheel Base, three-sleeper, three-seater Mercedes Sprinter. We didn’t hook up to a powered site and didn’t need to either as this van holds a 600W solar Pannel which continuously provides us with more than enough power to use for what we need (240W and 12V).

The gas stove, hot shower and Sky Bed made post hike sweats easy to wash off, yummy dinners and hours of star gazing.. It was pretty perfect. Any Yotchi van would be living the dream here.

Non-powered campsite - no worries!

Hiking is the most popular activity in Girraween National Park, and for good reason (it’s absolutely epic)...

The park has an extensive network of trails that cater to all levels of fitness and experience. From easy strolls to challenging multi-day hikes, the park has something for everyone. The most popular trail in the park is the Pyramid Trail, a steep 3.6-kilometer climb to the top of the park's iconic granite pyramid. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and is a favorite among experienced hikers.

Hello - this as good as a selfie gets for me (Jules)

Exploring Girraween National Park is a unique experience and we absolutely loved it and can’t wait to go back.
